This seems to be a very limited implementation of the VT supporting 7. All in all the audio solution worked well and sounded good, but basically Gigabyte VIA VT2021 Audio was indistinguishable from other onboard solutions such as those offered by Realtek.
CD audio worked as I expected. Spoken words were recorded from the Windows Sound Recorder found under the Accessories folder in the start menu within Gigabyte VIA VT2021 Audio. The recording was using the highest quality settings available in the control panel for the audio device being used to record.
The recording sample was extremely hard to hear. It was generally free of distortion though.

As usual, serious recording aficionados should look toward dedicated sound hardware for their needs. For general voice chat type applications it should be good enough.
All drive benchmarks were done using the freely available CrystalDiskMark 3. This device was selected due to having UASP compatible firmware. But when I say that the board has a few things going for it storage wise, I mean it.

This is actually really nice to see on a board found at this price point. For this feature Gigabyte turned to the Marvell controller.
Firmware is well implemented on this controller as it allows operation of both it and the Intel controller in RAID mode. This is of course printed on the red warning label affixed to the board when you un-box it.
Another oddity is the choice of the USB 3. Though my experience thus far with the controller was mostly negative. For one thing the performance was about the same as that of any Gigabyte VIA VT2021 Audio or Renesas controller. But it was problematic. I was forced to reboot the system. Updating the VIA driver from the Gigabyte website resolved this problem. Is there a chance somebody knows when and even if such drivers will be reliesed? most of the H77 and some Z77 have the VIA VT audio Z77 D3H rev (VIA Vdeck) and Windows The VIA Vinyl VT is a low-power optimized, high fidelity, channel High Definition audio codec which is compatible with Intel High Definition Audio Missing: Gigabyte.
